challenge 5 results! [Jun. 16th, 2010|11:19 pm]
[Tags|]

The rankings after this challenge are:

1) Black Dragon Fighting Society [the Author would like to elaborate on how proud he is, but that would take much too long]
2) True Believers
3) Waves of Wooden Legs
4) Demolition Lovers
5) Church of Hot Addiction [still catching up and SO CLOSE, but doing a great job]
6) Car Crash Hearts :( [at least some of you are doing great, individually!]

Here are some of my favorites, random order! )

Don't worry - based on the previous poll, you'll all have four more challenges to catch up!

I posted too soon: I'll be MIA a little due to work, my birthday, and a huge road trip all happening in the next 10 days. Something will go down early next week, though. Be prepared.

Sorry about the sudden game hiatus; work scheduled me for a nearly full-time week without warning! That being said, I was originally planning on having this game run for longer, but I fear that the longer it goes, the more people will lose interest. I can feasibly wrap it up in two weeks without losing any dramatic events - but should I? The schedule of the remainder of the game is up to you:

Poll #1578186
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: None, participants: 70

How would you like the rest of the game to go?

View Answers
Everything goes to hell really soon, two more challenges after this, and things are wrapped up in the next week or two. Fewer challenges but more jam-packed with action.
12 (17.1%)
4-5 more challenges, a brief break (for vacation!), and then the game wraps up in early July. More challenges but may lose momentum.
58 (82.9%)

If you have no opinion either way, don't feel guilty about not voting.

  • ISSUE THREE of Page One News is up!
  • CHALLENGE FIVE: Gang spirit! By 7 pm EST CST, June 15th (Tuesday), email ysosrsfandom[at]gmail[dot]com with one of the following for your gang: a graphic, an icon, a macro, or (for the less graphically inclined) a slogan/motto. If you email something in, you will receive 10 points regardless of quality. The three most creative submissions from each gang will be posted on this journal and possibly used by the gang leader along with receiving 5 additional points. Don't forget your username in the subject line! Have fun with this challenge - the next one is going to be a puzzle again.

ETA: Suggestions: just your gang's name with a design, a slogan/quote/song lyric that relates, insulting other gangs, etc etc - you name it, feel free to do it.

Current rankings with percentage participation (from the currently active members of the gang, mind; this isn't even including all of the vaguely inactive people; I took them as well as the number of gang members into account when calculating scores), if you guys are interested in that information:

  • Black Dragon Fighting Society (82; you guys were awesome on this challenge!)
  • Waves of Wooden Legs (73)
  • True Believers (73)
  • Demolition Lovers (62; what happened?)
  • Church of Hot Addiction (88; great participation! you guys are catching up -- remember that there was a pretty intense four-way tie)
  • Car Crash Hearts (68; try to get back some of the magic you had during challenge 1!)

Everyone who has not participated in a single challenge (not even the mini-challenge in the beginning) was removed from this game's contact information as well as their gang communities, if they were in them. If you want back in, just shoot me an email! (ysosrsfandom[at]gmail[dot]com)

I had tons of fun creating this challenge! I know it had a few glitches, but I hope it was enjoyable.

Description of the plot and answers )

As I mentioned before, that burnt me out a bit, so there won't be another challenge until this weekend at the earliest. It'll be less puzzle-oriented and will probably be posted early in the morning, just for a little variety in times. A Page One News is coming, if I can get my brain working properly, but I'd also keep an eye on the Tumblr and the Livejournals (which, by the way - if you see a comment, you can reply to it, even if you just want to say "OH SNAP" or "the hell?" or ask a question). Things are picking up in pace!

    Challenge 4 [Jun. 6th, 2010|02:05 pm]
    [Tags|]

The challenge (and instructions) are up on the website! I had someone run through the challenge so I think we've worked all the kinks out. Some of the tasks are purposefully difficult, though. I'll only be around for an hour more and then on my phone, but since I'll be at work and then at a show, only message me if you have an important question (not if the challenge is too difficult, etc).

Emails are due in 32 hours, at 10 PM EST CST tomorrow, June 7th. I've kind of burnt myself out creating this (though it was fun!) so there won't be another one until the end of the week. Keep an eye on town-related shenanigans, though. Have fun!

ETA: Sorry about the unzipping issues! I can't do anything about it now, but StuffIt has been recommended as a program to use.

results of challenge 3 [Jun. 3rd, 2010|01:43 pm]
    [Tags|]

I seriously can't believe I'm about to report these results. At first the results were a bit different, but after adjusting for some people in the gang who've never turned in a single score (if you're one of those, hop to it, otherwise you're out after the next challenge) - it all ended in a four-way tie. Let me just say: what the hell.

Tied for first: Black Dragon Fighting Society, Demolition Lovers, True Believers, AND Waves of Wooden Legs
    Second: Car Crash Hearts
    Third: Church of Hot Addiction

Keep in mind that even if your gang isn't doing well, you may still be kicking ass individually! This challenge was a little iffy (sorry, my fault - even though we did end up having 79% participation) so the next one will be more straight-forward. It probably will be posted either Saturday or Sunday, early afternoon this time.

PS: I did end up getting two fantastic essays and even if they didn't guess the meaning of the clue (not related to the source material!), I gave them 15 extra points for the effort.

In the meantime, watch for a Page One News update tomorrow, ask the tumblr questions, and keep an eye out for crazy random happenstances!

Challenge 3 is sent! I changed my mind and sent it via email rather than posting it on the website, so let me know if you didn't get it.

All of the details are in the email, so you if you've read it, you should know what this post is for: inter-gang communication. Communicate away!

ETA: Forgot a clue that's on all of them! "Fictional world created by Piers Anthony". Sorry!

ETA 2: Since there were a few small errors, be sure to check the gang comms before you submit anything. I've been giving helpful hints all night so if I haven't commented on something, it's most likely right. Apologies for all the confusion!

It's me again! I wanted to make one super-concise and relatively important post. Basically, you could go on participating in challenges while avoiding the town/gang-related content of this game and still win in the end. However, at some point, something is going to happen with the gang leaders and/or the town and a mystery will have to be solved. Solving this mystery correctly will earn you major points. Major points.

These are the sites that are currently operating:

  • [info]ysosrsfandom and the various gang communities and gang leader Livejournals (see this journal's profile).
  • @ysosrsboss and assorted gang leaders on Twitter.
  • The official website (the "backstory and information" page is particularly useful as it lists all of the past interactions that the gang leaders have had)
  • Page One News, a newspaper written by The Author, the leader of the Black Dragon Fighting Society. (PS: a new issue is up!*)
  • And lastly, the Tumblr account. You can ask questions of any place and anyone on the main page and they will answer them (if they feel like it). There are still 5-6 in the message box, but don't worry about overwhelming me! Also - as some of you may have noticed - there will be random events. These events (someone walking down a sidewalk, a snippet of a conversation) will be posted and only left on the blog for 5-15 minutes, as if you were actually witnessing the event. Feel free to collaborate with your gang and attempt to gather them all ...or not. Perhaps keeping this information to yourself will benefit you at the end!

Finally, don't worry. This is supposed to be overwhelming and difficult to keep track of. I'm purposefully evil! Plus, I won't lie, about 75% of this information are red herrings. Can you sift through what's important and what's not? I guess we'll find out!

Also - to even up the playing field, I can be reached at ave frater on AIM at any time, if you want a quick answer to something. It may take me a little while to respond, but it does go straight to my phone. Lastly, challenge 3 will be posted to the weebly website on Tuesday and will be a puzzle.

*Yes, I will readily admit that it's not really up to par with other things I've written, but I'm running a one-woman show for the most part! And this one-woman show has been partying it up these past few days! I mean, there's a map, at least, which all of you should find useful. Also, Trebuchet is a fictional band that I created about 5 years ago and am using now just so I don't have to make up more names. Don't look into their names/personalities/songs/etc too much!

Results of Challenge #2 [May. 29th, 2010|07:19 pm]
    [Tags|]

We had such a difficult time yesterday because not only did we sift through 77 submissions (less participation than last time, but to be expected), so many of them were fantastic. It was a difficult choice! There were so many good submissions that I didn't include and we even had to raise the number of winners to 22 because there was some disagreement on the last few submissions to include. We tried to make a decision based on wit and originality as well as have various fandoms be represented (Mean Girls was well-represented, which was great, but we could only choose a few of them). Some are long, some are short, some are serious, some are crackfic - but we both agreed that they're all great.

The winners' entries are posted underneath the cut. Some are longish fic and some are graphics, so be aware that this post is very image heavy and also quite long.

    Top 22! )

The rankings are: Waves of Wooden Legs, Demolition Lovers, (TIE) Black Dragon Fighting Society and True Believers. Again, this was all pretty close.

CCH, you did so great on the last challenge! What happened? And come on, CoHA, winning it last year doesn't mean you can slack off this year!

Heckling aside, I also had tons more starred, which means that you all did a great job! Every single one of you. I enjoyed this challenge. Let me know if there are any mistakes in this entry and watch for another game-related post later tonight!

It's Wednesday here! Time for CHALLENGE TWO (sorry, I can't count!). Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a crossover. A crossover is considered a piece of fanwork that combines two or more different fandoms. The number of fandoms you choose to include is unlimited and the media you choose is boundless. Fic? Fine. Art? Also great! Fanvid, manipulation, interpretive dance, or a marriage certificate from the astral plane? Totally all right with me. (ETA: Also, macros are allowed. Everybody loves a good macro.) The length of everything is also up to you.

Be creative, but most of all, be witty and funny. After the challenges are submitted, I'm going to sit down with someone unaffiliated with this game and we'll choose the top twenty creations primarily based on how clever they are. If you submit something, you will receive 10 points. If your submission is chosen as one of the twenty, you will receive 20 points.

What fandoms are allowed? A lot.

    LIST OF FANDOMS )

Remember: 2 or more fandoms, combining them into a single creative work of your choice, merely submitting it gets you 10 points and being chosen as one of our twenty favorites gets you 20 points. Email your creations to y.so.srs.fandom[at]gmail[dot]com by Friday, May 28th, 5 pm CST (Time Zone Converter) with your username, gang affiliation, and what fandoms you used. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here. Have fun!

In other news, [info]ispageone's pet project is up and running again. PAGE ONE NEWS, ladies and gentlemen. (You can reach the latest issue by clicking on the sidebar.) I will be sure to post every time this updates, since it is a prime source of information. The Author can be reached by the contact form on the front page if you have any questions about the information he is providing. Enjoy!

Challenge 1 is over! We had 80% participation in this challenge, which is fantastic. The point rankings are now as follows:

First (a tie): Demolition Lovers and Black Dragon Fighting Society
Second (just a few points behind): True Believers
Third (just a few points behind that): Car Crash Hearts

Way to go, you guys! As for Waves of Wooden Legs and Church of Hot Addiction, don't worry, you aren't too far behind and there are many more challenges to come - like the one that'll be posted to this community on Wednesday. I've also been plotting and conspiring today and believe me, awesome things are going to be happening in the near future.

(PS: Don't be afraid to spam these journal posts or comment/reply to any gang leaders that may be posting/tweeting! We don't bite! Well, I don't.)
